We can’t quite believe it is September, and whilst we are looking forward to cosy nights in pubs with friends & fresh autumnal walks, we also realise our plant friends don’t love the colder, darker days. Some plants, however, are natural shade seekers so perfect for spots in your home which are darker than desired.

1. ZZ Plant

These beautiful plants are very easy to distinguish, and absolutely hold their own in a room. They are not only a statement plant, but they are easy to care for, and luckily us they are shade lovers. Only water once the soil is dry (which can be up to a month in winter months), pop them in a shadier corner & clean their leaves every few weeks to keep them looking glorious.

2. Peace Lily

The Peace Lily might be the opposite of the ZZ plant, but again the one thing they have in common is their shade-loving qualities. Keep this one happy by giving it a shadier spot, maybe in dappled light, water when the leaves start to droop and give it a good mist to boost the humidity.

3. Calathea Orbifolia

This stunning Calathea variety has bold leaves that start out a lighter shade of green, getting darker as they age. They love a shadier spot & high humidity, and in return, they will purify the air around you whilst you admire their brilliant foliage.

4. ASPARAGUS FERN

These dainty ferns are unusual to look at with their wire-like stems which shoot out in every direction. They may seem chaotic, but keep them in dappled sunlight or slight shade, with high humidity (think pebble tray for this one) and they will continue to flourish.

5. Kentia Palm

Whilst many associate Palms with tropical, sunny environments, these beauties actually prefer only dappled sunlight & shadier spots for them to live in. Besides this, they require water only when the top few inches of their soil is dry, plus wiping the leaves when they get dusty & misting to prevent their fronds from going brown due to lack of humidity.
