It’s where you start and end your day, from waking up to a refreshing cool shower, or enjoying a long soak in the tub before bed. Your bathroom should be your sanctuary - a space to relax, unwind and look after yourself.

And the good news is, your personal spa offers the perfect climate for an indoor rainforest to flourish. Usually warmer and more humid than the rest of your home, bathrooms are the ideal spot for keeping a luscious collection of plant life - especially as they will naturally require less care in such environments. Here are our top tips...

For small bathrooms:

If you aren’t blessed with much space, opt for a lean, tall plant such as a variegated schefflera, or make use of hanging pots with trailing plants like pothos and green philodendron. There are loads of plants that will actually thrive in the shower too.

If you have low light:

While all plants need some light (even a small window is a must), boston ferns and snake plants are among those that are happy to grow in filtered light.

Play with space:

If you’re clever with plant placements around your mirror, you can create the illusion of twice the amount of foliage.

Clear the air:

Succulents and other plants like English ivy are brilliant for reducing allergens, including things like mould and other fungus growth.
