This easy evergreen climber originates from the Solomon Islands, Papua New Guinea and is often referred to as Devil’s Ivy as it’s able to withstand variable low light conditions and is almost impossible to kill.
Water
They are subject to root rot if watered too often, it is best to allow for the soil to almost dry out between watering, letting the water drain through, watering less in the winter months.
Light
Pothos prefer bright indirect to moderate light conditions, but can tolerate low light conditions. Having said that, they will be likely to lose their variegation if not provided with enough light and will start to produce smaller leaves. Avoid direct sunlight as this can cause the leaves to scorch.
Humidity
These guys definitely prefer higher humidity levels, so although they can be placed in nearly any environment, try to avoid cold drafts or air conditioning vents. Misting the plant occasionally or placing a humidifier in the room will increase the humidity.
Feed
Use a liquid fertilizer once a month during the spring and summer months to encourage new growth.
A little extra…
Pinching off a couple of nodes will not only help to control the length, but also stimulate new growth and prevent the vine from getting leggy. Any cuttings can be propagated in water to later give away to friends and family. Repot every 2-3 years to prevent the roots from being pot bound and risk blocking the drainage holes.
