4 reasons why going back to the office might not be such a bad thing.

Last year we wrote about Why Plants Can Make You Better at Your Job as we plunged into an unpredictable year of working from home. Anxiety alongside lack of motivation, and not to mention no proper working space, meant that we tried anything we could to make our environment a healthier place to work.

And whilst our homes are greener, it is now almost time to start commuting back to our office spaces & stepping outside of our bubbles. We may have got used to working from our sofa in the comfort of pyjamas surrounded by our new green babies, it’s time to put on those clothes, call your work colleagues & switch up your environment.

Here are 4 reasons why we think going back to the office might not be so bad after all:

1. Real life people.

It has been so long since you have been able to have a chat with your team face to face, catch up with someone from a different department over coffee, or enjoy client lunches. Zoom has been helpful, and at times entertaining, but nothing beats communicating with someone in real life.

2. The commute.

Stick with me here… Although most of us in London have loved not squeezing on the tube next to someone who needs an introduction to deodorant, the act of going from one space to another is actually good for our minds. If we can switch it up by walking part way, cycling or just taking a later tube in with a good book, this commute gives us time to wake up & mentally prepare for our day ahead, whilst providing that much needed separation of work & home life.

3. A space for work.

We have touched upon this, but I think we can all do with creating some boundaries within our life again, and why not start with having a specific space for work, and ensuring your home is somewhere you can relax & switch off. Turning our kitchen tables & sofas into offices, then also expecting to to relax there a few hours later has been incredibly difficult.

4. Office Plants

Wait, but I have plants at home? True, but office plants are there to be enjoyed without having the stress to look after them yourselves. They also give you the added benefits of increased workplace satisfaction, higher concentration levels and better air quality. Not sure who is looking after yours? We have your back
