The Monstera Deliciosa ‘Variegata’ (aka Variegated Swiss Cheese Plant) is incredibly instagrammable, therefore hard to get our hands on for a reasonable price. Nevertheless, they are beautiful, and if you have one you are going to want to make sure it thrives.
Water
Allow for an inch of the soil to dry out before watering letting the water drain through, water less in the winter months. Wiping the leaves with a damp cloth will prevent a build-up of dust and create a natural shine.
Light
Low light conditions are not ideal as the plant needs light in order to photosynthesise and keep it's variegation, so it would be best placed in bright, indirect sunlight – direct sunlight can cause the leaves to scorch.
Humidity
Monsteras prefer high humidity but can be placed in nearly any environment. Misting the plant or placing a humidifier in the room will increase the humidity.
Feed
Use a liquid fertilizer once a month during the spring and summer months to encourage new and vibrant growth.
A little extra…
There are two types of variegated Monsteras and the ‘Variegata’ should not be confused with ‘Thai Constellation’, which has smaller, more yellow like leaf markings. The plant is a natural climber & would benefit from being supported by a trellis or a pole. To curb its growth, avoid repotting too often, cutting a leaf stem or two to reduce its height.
